On the 28th September 1943, in the middle of WWII, a Lancaster bomber on a training mission, crashed near Cock Hill farm in Moor Monkton, York with the loss of all 7 Canadian and UK airmen on board.<br />A memorial has been placed at the church in Moor Monkton with a ceremony taking place on September 23rd 2023.
