Hamed Buhaleeba, one of the United Arab Emirates most successful sportsmen, died when his offshore catamaran somersaulted and landed upside down during the Cowes-Torquay race. The accident happened off Ryde, Tin the Solent, the strait between the Isle of Wight and Great Britain.<br /><br />Hamed Buhaleeba was the throttleman alongside his brother Rashid Buhaleeba who drove the Victory M-1, leading the Class 2 race. The 32 feet catamaran hit a wave, went airborne and landed upside down, while traveling at more than 100 mi/h (160 km/h). Rashid escaped serious injuri, Hamed Buhaleeba was found still trapped in the cockpit by the rescuers. He was taken to a hospital in Gosport, Hampshire, England, where he was declared dead an hour after admission.<br /><br />As a boat driver Hamed Buhaleeba won 25 powerboating titles in his career, racing with Dubai's Victory team, mostly in the famed Victory 7.<br /><br />R.I.P
