The 5th edition of the Oldtimer-Classic of Speed, a vintage car and motorcycle exhibition run, held at Hittnau, Zürich, Switzerland on Sunday, 27 August 2006, was marred by the death of a track marshal who lost his life when he ran to the aid of a crashed vehicle and was struck by another car.

It was teeming with rain during the event, when one of the competitors lost control of his Ford GT40 on the Tösstalstrasse, going towards Hittnau on the 1.6-kilometer temporary street circuit. The car struck a concrete New Jersey barrier and came to rest in the middle of the road. Marshals arrived to secure the scene, waving yellow flags.

One of the oncoming drivers, a 63-year-old man whose name was not released, who arrived on scene seconds later at an estimate speed of about 100 km/h (62 mi/h) at the wheel of the Lamborghini Miura #48, could not avoid impact and hit one of the marshals. 57-year-old Ambros Herger-Koch was catapulted several meters, being killed on the spot.

Immediately after the tragedy, the Hittnauer Motorsport Club that organized the event, cancelled the meeting in which participated more than 150 racers.

This was reported to be the first fatal accident which occurred in the Hittnauer Oldtimer-Classic of Speed, since its first edition held in 1998. And the accident seems to be the first case ever of a motorsport fatality involving a Lamborghini.

R.I.P
