GOP Attempts to Elect Jim Jordan , As Speaker of the House.<br />Since Kevin McCarthy's ousting <br />as House speaker two weeks ago.<br />Republicans have been fighting among themselves about who should fill the position.<br />Trump ally Rep. Jim Jordan has emerged as a main contender, but a handful of Republicans are refusing to vote for him, citing his extreme views, AP reports.<br />However, Jordan has already convinced "dozens of detractors" to support him amid public pressure to fill the seat, AP reports.<br />House Republicans will put it to a vote on Oct. 17.<br />Trump reiterated his support for Jordan.<br />Jim Jordan will be a great speaker. <br />I think he’s going to have the <br />votes soon, if not today over <br />the next day or two, Donald Trump, via statement.<br />Jordan needs to receive 217 votes to <br />become speaker, which means nearly the <br />full majority of his party needs to back him.<br />Democrats are slated to back <br />Hakeem Jeffries for the job.<br />All House business has been suspended <br />until a speaker is appointed
