Violent Crime Numbers in US, Continue to Decline.<br />In 2022, violent crime in the United States <br />decreased to nearly pre-pandemic levels, <br />while property crimes rose substantially.<br />NBC reports that the latest FBI annual crime <br />report compiles data representing 83.3% of all <br />agencies covering 93.5% of the U.S. population.<br />According to the data, violent crime decreased <br />1.7%, including a 6.1% drop in murder <br />and non-negligent manslaughter.<br />Over the same period, incidents <br />of rape decreased by 5.4%, <br />while aggravated assault fell 1.1%. .<br />In 2020, the murder rate in the U.S. <br />skyrocketed by 29% amid the pandemic. .<br />Richard Rosenfeld, criminal justice professor emeritus at <br />the University of Missouri-St. Louis, attributes the drop <br />in violence to pandemic "stresses and strains" abating. .<br />By and large what we’re seeing <br />is simply a return to something <br />approaching normal after the big <br />changes associated with the pandemic, Richard Rosenfeld, Criminal justice professor emeritus <br />at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, via NBC.<br />NBC reports that despite declining <br />violent crimes, property crimes rose 7.1%, <br />with a 10.9% increase in motor vehicle thefts.<br />Compared to 2021, the FBI said that carjackings <br />increased by 8.1%, with over one quarter of <br />these incidents involving someone being injured.<br />NBC reports that overall violent crimes remain <br />well below historic highs set in the 1990s
