Britain's race car driver George Crossman, aged 37, of Minehead, Somerset, England, fatally crashed on the second lap of the Boxing Days' Lombank Trophy, the last race of the 1965 Formula 3 season in the United Kingdom.<br /><br />The accident happened on Sunday, 26 December 1965. While traveling at a speed of 80 mi/h (129 km/h), the nearside front wheel of George Crossman's Cooper T76 - Ford hit the verge as he came out of Paddock Hill bend. The driver lost control of the car which left the track, crashed into a hoarding and overturned.<br /><br />George Crossman suffered a fractured skull and was taken to Brook General Hospital, Woolwich, and later transferred to Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Sussex, where he was in a coma for a week and did not regain consciousness until he passed away on Saturday, 01 January 1966.<br /><br />George Crossman was survived by his wife, one daughter and two sons. Winner of the race was Piers Courage in Charles Lucas' Lotus 41 - Ford.<br /><br />R.I.P
