Glasgow headlines 25 October: Schools in the city set to close as staff take strike action

Schools and Nurseries across the city will be closing on Wednesday 1 November as staff participate in industrial action concerning pay. <br /><br />Members of Unison will be walking out for the first part of a rolling programme of strikes, after voting overwhelmingly to reject Cosla’s latest pay offer. <br /><br />This includes classroom assistants, janitors, canteen workers and cleaners.<br /><br />Next up, Glasgow City Council have revealed designs for the redevelopment of George Square.<br /><br />They are now set to be submitted into an official planning application allowing locals to have their say. <br /><br />New features include sensory gardens, rain gardens, a water feature, sheltered seating and contemporary art installations. <br /><br />And finally, Glasgow’s food scene is about to receive a new addition as the Caribbean restaurant chain Turtle Bay has announced its first Scottish opening. <br /><br />The venue is set to open before the end of the year, bringing 60 new jobs to the city centre.
