Tropea is a small town on the east coast of the Calabria region of southern Italy. It is known for its rocky old town, beaches and red onions. The 12th-century cathedral was built on a Byzantine cemetery and features a marble sarcophagus and an effigy of Mary of Romania, the city's patron saint. There is a viewpoint nearby with a view of the rock formations.
