Adriana Barátová & Alex Černák's Fatal Crash @ Nové Mesto nad Váhom 2012 (Aftermath)

The 2012 edition of the yearly Podjavorinský okruh Nové Mesto nad Váhom, ended in tragedy by a fatal accident that resulted in the deaths of two spectators. The event was immediately abandoned after the tragedy.<br /><br />On Saturday, 11 August 2012, the drivers were allowed to test their racing cars in one of the last training sessions for a reliability run around the Nové Mesto nad Váhom street circuit. About 15h30, Slovakian driver František Kováčik, 58-year-old, lost control of his red BMW M3, after hitting a wet patch on the road. The car swerved, mowed down a traffic sign and crashed into a bus stop from which a group of spectators was watching the race.<br /><br />A pregnant woman, 37-year-old Adriana Barátová was killed on the spot. She lived just a few meters from the site of the accident.<br /><br />Many other spectators who were standing at the same place, were injured in the crash. Amongst them was the ten-year-old boy Alex Černák who received severe injuries. By helicopter, he was transported to the Children's University Hospital in Bratislava where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.<br /><br />An experienced rallyman since the early 1980s, František "Ferko" Kováčik escaped serious injury. He was reported to be from Nitra, Slovakia, where he owned a garage.<br /><br />The Podjavorinský okruh Nové Mesto nad Váhom was a festival for vintage and historic race cars and motorcycles, held every year in the town of Nové Mesto nad Váhom, in Trenčín Region of north-western Slovakia. The 12th edition of the event was scheduled to be contested on the weekend of 11 and 12 August 2012.<br /><br />R.I.P
