A number of homes in the city’s East End were evacuated on 14 November after a potentially hazardous substance was found in a property. <br /><br />The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police attended the scene on Shettleston Road in Tollcross while surrounding streets were also closed off. <br /><br />Officers have asked the public to avoid the area in the meantime as inquiries are underway. <br /><br />Next, newly released figures have revealed that Glasgow City Council has generated almost £500,000 from LEZ fines since the rules were launched in June. <br /><br />More than 20,000 fines have been issued since 1 June 2023. <br /><br />And in other news, the performers a this year’s Christmas Light Switch On at George Square have been revealed. <br /><br />The event will be presented by Clyde 1’s George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie, while the Ariana Grande tribute act, Simply Ariana, country singer-songwriter Kevin McGuire and Michelle McManus will also be making appearances. <br /><br />The Switch On will be taking place on Sunday 19 November.
