A 70ft high wartime watchtower - complete with a gun turret - which was converted into a seven-storey home is up for sale for £500,000.<br />The iconic Grade II listed Tynemouth Watchtower, near Newcastle, was built in 1916 as a military lookout post.<br />Gun turrets were added and the watchtower was called into action again in 1939 to protect the North East coast from a feared Nazi naval invasion.<br />Owned originally by the War Office, the 70ft tower is one of the tallest of its kind and was extensively used during World War Two.
