Rommel Toscan's Fatal Crash @ Autódromo Internacional de Tarumã 2016

Brazilian racing driver Rommel Toscan, 30-year-old, was a regular on the Campeonato Gaúcho de Marcas e Pilotos (Rio Grande do Sul State Makers and Drivers Championship), competing in the Class B since two years. In 2014 he managed to take a class victory in the 12 Horas de Tarumã, partnered with Luiz Sérgio Sena, Jr. and Daniel Elias. In 2015 he finished 14th in points.<br /><br />Rommel Toscan lost his life as a result of an accident which happened at Autódromo Internacional de Tarumã, during the second round of the series on Sunday, 20 March 2016. He drove his black Chevrolet Celta #88, entered by team Giocar Racing. Toscan collided with Aírton Dill's car, after a slight contact with another driver. Both cars did not slow down on the approach to the fast Curva Três, but went straight at high speed, crashed hard into a tyre barrier and flipped over.<br /><br />The race was immediately stopped and Toscan was transported to Hospital de Viamão where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. Aírton Dill received minor injuries in the accident.<br /><br />Rommel Toscan was the second Brazilian driver to die in March 2016; just one week before his death, Marcos Mocelin passed away at Cascavel hospital from injuries suffered in a very similar accident on 28 February of that year at the Autódromo Internacional Zilmar Beux in Cascavel.<br /><br />A Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, native, Rommel Toscan ran a company specialized in equipment and system for water treatment in Estância Velha, where he resided with his wife and a son. His deceased father, Robson Toscan, had been a racing driver. Rommel Toscan was interred at the Cemitério Jardim da Memória in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil.<br /><br />R.I.P
