Study Warns of , 'Unprecedented <br />Drop in Performance' , For Students Globally.<br />A new study suggests that students around <br />the world experienced historic setbacks in <br />reading and math amid the COVID-19 pandemic. .<br />ABC reports that declines in testing were found to be <br />so widespread that the United States climbed in <br />global rankings just by not falling behind as sharply.<br />The Program for International Student Assessment <br />gave the state of global education a bleak appraisal. .<br />Their report found that the average international <br />math score dropped by an amount equal <br />to three-quarters of a year of education.<br />Over the same time, reading scores dropped by <br />an amount equal to half a year of schooling.<br />ABC reports that the negative impact on <br />education spanned nations both rich and poor, large <br />and small, with only a very few seeing any progress.<br />In countries where testing was conducted, a quarter <br />of students were found to now be considered <br />low performers in math, reading and science. .<br />The report warns that the results suggest <br />an "unprecedented drop in performance." .<br />The whole world is struggling <br />with math, and we are <br />not immune from that, Peggy Carr, Head of the National Center for Education Statistics, via ABC.<br />Everyone had struggles during <br />the pandemic.
