Episode 1 : To the origins of vaccination // Aux origines de la vaccination (English CC)<br /><br />La rédaction de geneveMonde.ch a voulu revenir sur un événement marquant de l’histoire de la santé publique en rencontrant chez lui le Docteur Daniel Tarantola, l’ancien directeur du Département vaccination, vaccins et produits biologiques à l’Organisation mondiale de la santé à Genève.<br /><br />Il s’agit de l’éradication de la variole à la suite d’une campagne mondiale à laquelle Daniel Tarantola a participé activement sur le terrain en Afrique mais aussi en Asie et plus particulièrement au Bangladesh. Il faut savoir que la variole était une candidate de choix à son éradication, sa menace et sa sévérité étaient mondialement redoutées.<br /><br />Voici le premier numéro de notre entretien en cinq épisodes avec Daniel Tarantola. Merci aux équipes de l'OMS et plus particulièrement Dr. Rosamund Lewis, Marie Villemin-Partow, Reynald Erard et Tarik Jasarevic pour leur soutien et leur travail d'aide à la documentation et à la réalisation de cette série.<br /><br />--<br /><br />The geneveMonde.ch editorial team wanted to take a look back at a milestone in the history of public health by meeting Dr. Daniel Tarantola, former Director of the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals at the World Health Organization in Geneva.<br /><br />It was the eradication of smallpox following a worldwide campaign in which Daniel Tarantola played an active part in the field, not only in Africa but also in Asia, and more particularly in Bangladesh. Smallpox was a prime candidate for eradication, and its threat and severity were feared worldwide.<br /><br />Here is the first issue of our five-part interview with Daniel Tarantola.
