A bus went up in flames earlier today - with the fire so big smoke could be seen from 'half a mile away'.<br /><br />Firefighters raced to the single-decker vehicle on the A35 in Axminster, Devon at around 9am.<br /><br />The road was shut while crews worked - with video showing black smoke billowing into the sky.<br /><br />Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said later that the bus had been "completely destroyed".<br /><br />The cause is currently unknown.<br /><br />An onlooker said: "We saw the smoke through the trees and when we came round the corner we saw the bus completely engulfed in the flames.<br /><br />"It was a really really big fire, so we couldn't even tell if it was a bus or a lorry. After about three or four minutes there was nothing left.<br /><br />"A couple of other vehicles had been stopped and everyone had been got out of the bus unhurt thankfully."<br /><br />Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told DevonLive: “We were called at 8.35am this morning to a single decker bus that was well alight on the A35 near Taunton Cross, Devon.<br /><br />“Appliances from Colyton and Honiton stations attended and used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the fire.<br /><br />“The vehicle has been completely destroyed by fire.”
