This is the incredible moment a group of paddleboarders in the Antarctic sea came face-to-face with a pod of humpback whales.

Skylar Kaye, 23, was on an Antarctica cruise with her mother Tracy, 55, and brother Dylan, 32, in December last year when she captured the amazing moment.

The trio, from Dallas, Texas, were out on the sea at Fournier Bay for about 45 minutes before coming into contact with eight humpback whales.

The video shows Tracy saying "I hear a whale" minutes before two appear and blow water straight up into the air.

Skylar, who works as a travel planner and creator, said: "It felt so surreal. I was in complete awe.

"I felt like I was another planet; finding yourself surrounded by one of Earth's last remaining untouched wildernesses.

"Suddenly being swarmed by massive humpback whales in every direction - you could hear them blowing and singing underwater.

"I was about a foot away at one point. One of them swam below my board too!"
