In yet another step that will revolutionize urban mobility, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated ‘Nagpur Metro Phase I’ to the nation. He flagged off two metro trains - from Khapri to Automotive Square (Orange Line) and from Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar (Aqua line) - at Khapri Metro Station. Phase I of the Nagpur Metro is developed at a cost of more than Rs 8650 crore. Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Nagpur Metro Phase- II, which will be developed at a cost of more than Rs 6700 crore.<br /><br />The Phase-1 of Nagpur Metro comprises a 39-km-long elevated stretch, with 38 stations and two depots.<br /><br />The entire stretch has been divided into two corridors: North-South (Line-1) and East-West (Line-2).<br /><br />The 19.6-km-long North-South corridor with 18 stops will operate between Khapri and Automotive Square.<br /><br />The East-West corridor with a length of 18.5 km connects Prajapati Nagar in the eastern part of the city with Lokmanya Nagar in the western part of the city and has 20 stops.<br /><br />The detailed project report (DPR) of Nagpur Metro Phase-II for extending the existing 4 corridors of Phase-1.<br /><br />Nagpur Metro Rail Project Phase-II is scheduled to be completed in 2026. It consists of the following 4 extensions of 2 corridors of Phase I, totaling 43.8 km -<br /><br />i. MIHAN – MIDC ESR - 18.6 km<br />ii. Automotive Square – Kanhan River - 13.0 km<br />iii. Prajapati Nagar – Kapsi - 5.5 km<br />iv. Lokmanya Nagar – Hingna - 6.7 km<br /><br />Phase II will connect the satellite cities of Nagpur and highly benefit a population of over 10 lakh residing in these areas. When it is operational, the total length of the Nagpur Metro project will be 82 km.<br /><br />The 2 phases will collectively lead to an investment of Rs 15,388 crore. There will be a substantial increase in ridership after the Phase-II of Nagpur Metro is operational. The total ridership of the 2 phases after the completion of Phase II is expected to be 5.5 lakh daily.
