Moon Mullican "Rocket To The Moon" on King 1198 <br /><br />March 6, 1953<br /><br />Moon Mullican had a skill for merging country music, rock & roll, blues, pop, and honky tonk. <br /><br />He was a great keyboard player and a fine singer.<br /><br />He was born Aubrey Mullican in 1909 in Corrigan, Texas.<br /><br />His family owned an 87-acre farm worked by sharecroppers. One of them, guitarist Joe Jones, introduced Mullican to the blues.<br /><br />Mullican earned the nickname "Moon," short for "Moonshine." <br /><br />During the mid-'30s, he joined the Western swing band the Blue Ridge Playboys. Then he joined Cliff Bruner's Texas Wanderers. <br /><br />He made recordings with the Sunshine Boys and Jimmie Davis.<br /><br />Mullican took the lead singer's spot in 1939 when Bruner recorded "Truck Driver's Blues."<br /><br />In 1946 he worked for Syd Nathan of Cincinnati, Ohio, who founded King Records.<br /><br />Moon Mullican "Rocket To The Moon" on King 1198 (March 6, 1953) rock & boogie
