Ingredients <br /><br />4 - 6 slices French bread, sliced 1 1/2 thick<br />4-ounces cream cheese, softened <br />2 heaping tablespoons powdered sugar<br />1 - 2 tablespoons strawberry jam or preserves <br />1 egg<br />3 tablespoons buttermilk<br />Dash of vanilla <br />2 tablespoons butter for cooking<br /><br />Directions <br /><br />In small bowl, stir together cream cheese, sugar and jam. Cut two inch pockets into bread. Place 1 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture into each slice of bread. <br /><br />In another bowl, whisk together egg, buttermilk and vanilla. <br /><br />Heat skillet on medium high heat. Add butter. Dip each piece of bread into egg mixture coating both sides. Place in hot skillet. Cook 2-3 minutes on each side until crisp and golden brown. Garnish with whipped cream and fresh strawberries.
