A man has been arrested and the bomb squad called after 'a number of suspicious items' were found at a property during a police raid.<br /><br />Police said the man, 58, was held on suspicion of offences under the firearms act after they found the items during a warrant at a house in Grimethorpe, South Yorks,.<br /><br />The army's bomb disposal team has been at the scene in Brierley Road since the incident happened earlier this morning (May 8).<br /><br />Residents in the street were evacuated and members of the public are advised to avoid the area after all roads within a 100m cordon were closed.<br /><br />Assistant chief constable David Hartley from South Yorkshire Police said: "Public safety is our top priority. <br /><br />"We are working together with our partners to build up a full picture of the circumstances surrounding this incident and the suspicious items which have been found. <br /><br />"This could take some time and we remain grateful to the public for their cooperation, patience and understanding as we carry out this critical work."<br /><br />Police said residents could be left without access to their properties for around 48 hours.
