Its fans swear it can cure heart palpitations, bad stomachs and even impotence, but every year hundreds of people end up in hospital after gorging themselves on Türkiye's "mad honey". <br /><br />The substance is made by bees taking pollen from a subspecies of rhododendron found in Türkiye's Pontic Alps, which contains a neurotoxin that can slow the heartbeat and pack a hallucinogenic punch. <br /><br />Beekeeper Bayram Demirciler is adamant his honey is safe, saying "it's not good to consume too much" and "has never" made him sick, despite being diabetic.
