Netflix Is Sued , Over ‘Baby Reindeer’.<br />Scottish woman Fiona Harvey is suing Netflix for $170 million, The Verge reports. .<br />She claims that her "identity and likeness" were referenced for the show's character, Martha Scott.<br />and used to tell "brutal lies" which ruined <br />"her reputation, her character and her life.".<br />Series creator Richard Gadd claims that the show is based on a "true story" of his personal experiences.<br />in which he portrays a "fictionalized version of himself being stalked by Martha," The Verge reports. .<br />Harvey claims that her identity as the inspiration for Martha was "completely undisguised" and Netflix "did literally nothing" in terms of fact-checking. .<br />The lies that Defendants told about <br />Harvey to over 50 million people <br />worldwide include that Harvey is a <br />twice-convicted stalker who was <br />sentenced to five years in prison, and <br />that Harvey sexually assaulted Gadd, Fiona Harvey's lawyers, via filing.<br />Defendants told these lies, and <br />never stopped, because it was a <br />better story than the truth, and <br />better stories made money, Fiona Harvey's lawyers, via filing.<br />Gadd previously made a statement to <br />'The Guardian' about 'Baby Reindeer.'.<br />It’s very emotionally true, obviously: <br />I was severely stalked and severely <br />abused. But we wanted it to exist in <br />the sphere of art, as well as protect <br />the people it’s based on, Richard Gadd, to 'The Guardian'.<br />In a statement to CNN, Netflix said that it plans “to defend this matter vigorously and to stand by Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story.”
