The caretaker was attacked by the 53-year-old elephant on Thursday in the Kallar area of the Idukki region of Kerala moments after he was seen cruelly hitting its legs and giving commands.<br /><br />The assistant caretaker, who was trying to tether the elephant, was severely trampled, collapsed, and later died.<br /><br />The heart-wrenching video showed the enormous elephant smashing its trainer's body after stomping on him. It then slams him to the ground after grabbing his neck by the trunk.<br /><br />The footage also shows a second man showing up as the elephant attempted to kick him.<br /><br />The trainer who died was 62-year-old M Balakrishnan, who underwent a formal autopsy before his body was handed over to his relatives for last rites.<br /><br />Reports suggest an investigation has been initiated against the elephant safari park in light of the tragic incident.<br /><br />The urgent closure of the park was mandated by the Forest Department.<br /><br />According to the local reports, A H Jalaludin, a resident of Erumeli in the Kottayam district, was the owner of the elephant.<br /><br />However, P K Raveendran, a local from Kanjirappally, was the elephant's main caretaker.<br /><br />The elephant was housed for safari at Kerala Farm in the Devikulam taluk hamlet of Anaviratty.
