Japan's Mount Fuji opens for climbers, but this time they've got to pay

Japan's tallest peak opened for the 2024 climbing season on Monday (July 1) with one crucial change: now it's for ticket holders only.

Starting this year, the Yoshida trail on Mount Fuji will operate with a daily limit of 4,000 visitors.

Access is controlled by a newly-installed gate at the trailhead. Visitors may only pass if they have reserved their place and paid a 2,000 yen (USD 12.43) fee. Once the 4,000 cap is breached, the gate will close.

For their money, climbers will receive a wristband granting access to the trail between the hours of 3 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those with reservations for mountain huts closer to Fuji's peak will be able to pass outside those hours and will not be subject to the daily visitor limit, authorities say.

Video by Reuters

Subscribe to The Manila Times Channel - https://tmt.ph/YTSubscribe
Visit our website at https://www.manilatimes.net

Follow us:
Facebook - https://tmt.ph/facebook
Instagram - https://tmt.ph/instagram
Twitter - https://tmt.ph/twitter
DailyMotion - https://tmt.ph/dailymotion

Subscribe to our Digital Edition - https://tmt.ph/digital

Check out our Podcasts:
Spotify - https://tmt.ph/spotify
Apple Podcasts - https://tmt.ph/applepodcasts
Amazon Music - https://tmt.ph/amazonmusic
Deezer: https://tmt.ph/deezer
Tune In: https://tmt.ph/tunein

#TheManilaTimes
#worldnews
#mountfuji
#japan
