A man was arrested by police after a resident claims he was threatening a young couple with a "sword".<br /><br />Police arrived on Union Street, Swindon, just after 1am yesterday (30/06).<br /><br />A resident on the street said he saw a young couple walking up the street.<br /><br />He claims he saw a man who also lives on the street walk out of his house with a sword and started to threaten the young couple with it.<br /><br />The couple continued to argue with the man and called the police.<br /><br />When the police arrive at the scene the man barricades himself in his house and is arguing with the police through his door.<br /><br />The police then swarm the house and arrest the man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and affray and suspicion of class B drugs.<br /><br />A resident, who doesn't want to be named said: "There is a pub on the end of the street and a young couple was walking down the street when I heard shouting.<br /><br />"I look out my house and a man comes out with a sword.<br /><br />"The girlfriend starts crying and is in hysterics and the man with the sword threatens them.<br /><br />"When the police arrive they are all screaming at the man to get out.<br /><br />"In the end, they end up storming the property and bring him out in handcuffs."<br /><br />A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police, said: "A man was arrested in the early hours of this morning in Union Street, Swindon, following reports that a person had been seen with a knife.<br /><br />"Officers attended the area and carried out enquiries.<br /><br />"A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and affray.<br /><br />"A search was conducted at an address and the man was further arrested on suspicion of class B drugs.<br /><br />"He’s been released on bail for the offences of affray and possession of class B, and no further action regarding the possession of a weapon.""
