Hilarious footage shows the moment when a giant fun-loving dog tries to flee his owner – by diving onto a paddle board.

The video shows Hobie, a stubborn Newfoundland, refusing to leave the water during a training day with a dog group at Wyresdale Park, in Scorton, Lancs.

And as he was being pulled to the shoreline, the rebellious black mutt made a final bid to stay at the lake by jumping onto a nearby floating board.

But he was thankfully grabbed by his owner, who then got him out of the water with the help of another dog walker.

The clip was filmed during a water rescue session run by the Blackpool Working Newfoundlands group, where the dogs were practising life-saving skills.

Brooke Schofield, its co-founder, said the breed was well suited for saving humans but could be a little headstrong.

She said about Hobie: “He really did not want to come out.”

“[But] they have a natural instinct, if they see a human in water they really don't like it.
They will do anything they can to get the person out.

“We help them get their confidence in the water and do activities like swimming out to people, taking a rope, towing a boat.

"The dogs really enjoy it as it's what they were bred for."
