Hamas's top political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in the early hours of the morning in Tehran, the Palestinian militant group announced.<br /><br />Iran's Revolutionary Guards confirmed Haniyeh's death, hours after he attended a swearing-in ceremony for the country's new president, and stated that they were investigating the incident.<br /><br />The Revolutionary Guards warned that the assassination "will be met with a harsh and painful response."<br /><br />There was no immediate comment from Israel.
