The Malayan tiger, ‘Harimau Malaya’ was recognised as its own subspecies in 2004 and is considered the national animal of Malaysia, despite the lack of an official law or declaration. <br /><br />Yet, there are fewer than 150 Malayan tigers left in the wild. The most recent report of a tiger found dead in Bentong, is the third such death in six months and the fifth in 2024. <br /><br />Dr Henry Chan, Conservation Director, (World Wide Fund for Nature) WWF-Malaysia discusses ongoing conservation efforts for protecting tigers which also empower indigenous communities and ensure ecological sustainability.<br />
