A nurse had to wade through chest-deep flood water left behind by Hurricane Debby after a night shift in Florida.<br /><br />Heather Ahnen, 49, had finished a nightshift at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, and driven quarter of a mile when the water became too high to continue.<br /><br />She abandoned her car and had to walk and started walking - despite having a broken ankle DUE TO AN EARLIER ACCIDENT.<br /><br />The water was initially ankle deep but soon it reached chest height and Heather was concerned for her safety, on August 4, 2024.<br /><br />After walking half a mile, Heather arrived home and luckily her house was not flooded.<br /><br />Heather, from Sarasota, Florida, said: "I couldn't see the road at all.<br /><br />"I couldn't see what was in the water or what was floating around me.<br /><br />"The water was very dirty - it got so deep it go to my chest."<br /><br />Hurricane Debby slammed into Florida at 11am on August 4, 2024, before weakening to a tropical storm.<br /><br />After the storm hit, Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 61 counties across the state.
