A boy has died after being pulled from a canal in Wolverhampton.<br /><br />Emergency services were called to Hendon Avenue in the Ettingshall area of the city after the youngster got into difficulties in the water at around 6pm yesterday (Sun).<br /><br />Police officers managed to pull the child out of the canal in a critical condition before paramedics began administering advanced life support.<br /><br />However, despite the efforts of medical staff, the boy, who has not been named, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. <br /><br />West Midlands Ambulance Service said they sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic.<br /><br />A service spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found a boy, who had been pulled from the water by police colleagues, in a critical condition.<br /><br />“He was receiving basic life support by officers and ambulance staff immediately took over to administer advanced life support.<br /><br />“Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, the child could not be saved and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”<br /><br />West Midlands Police said they were called to reports of a "person in the water" and closed the tow-paths around the area.<br /><br />A police spokesperson said last night: “We are currently at a canal tow-path in Wolverhampton following reports of a person in the water.<br /><br />“The person has been taken to hospital and the tow-path remains closed near to Ettingshall Road. <br /><br />"Please avoid the area while emergency services continue to deal with the incident.”
