Two people arrested after a man died falling from fourth floor balcony

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died after falling from a fourth floor balcony of a block of flats.<br /><br />Police were called to Black Friar Court in Salford, Greater Manchester, after reports that a 57-year-old male had fallen from the apartment block.<br /><br />Despite the best efforts of emergency services last night (Sunday), the victim was pronounced dead at hospital.<br /><br />A 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody for questioning.<br /><br />Callum Balderstone, who witnessed the incident, said he saw a man holding onto the edge of the balcony before falling.<br /><br />He says he then looked down and phoned an ambulance but said he could see instantly how serious his injuries were.<br /><br />Callum said: "His arms were stretched out and his finger tips were holding onto the edge.<br /><br />"I said to my son that I couldn't look any longer as he was going to go and then five seconds later, I heard a bang. <br /><br />"I looked down and he was there, it was horrible. <br /><br />"He held on for some time considering he was a big, heavy chap - it happened so instantly and so quick it was unbelievable. <br /><br />"It was scary, when I looked down and saw his body on the floor, I had to go for a walk to clear my head and I've been feeling sick all day."<br /><br />Detective Inspector David Ogden said: "We know the community will be concerned about this tragic death, and we share their concern.<br /><br />"We're appealing to anyone who has not yet spoken to us. <br /><br />"Please don't assume that what you know is already known to us. <br /><br />"The smallest piece of information may be crucial to our investigation and towards getting answers for this man's family."<br /><br />Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting log 3044 of 11/8/24.<br /><br />You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.
