She is around age 21. <br /><br />She sings a Creole folk song--or a Creole Lament<br /><br />"Salangadou" speaks of a distraught mother searching for her lost child.<br /><br />Marilyn Berneice Horne was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania. She was one of the four children of Bentz and Berneice Horne. I don't know why the 78 rpm disc gives her name as "Marilynn" with 2 "n" letters at the end.<br /><br />I think of her as a mezzo-soprano, but she is identified on the disc as a contralto.<br /><br />She is still alive, and I would love to talk to her about this early recording--what does she think of it now?
