Protesters took to the streets of Indonesian capital Jakarta on Thursday, to rally against the government’s proposed electoral reforms, which have been seen by some as a way to prevent critics of the government from running for office.<br /><br />Protesters surrounded the parliament building, chanting and singing, while banners were displayed reading ‘democracy in crisis: are we free?’ Many protesters attempted to climb the fence surrounding the building.<br /><br />The protest continued into the night, and was met by riot police on motorcycles, who attempted to keep the crowds away from the parliament building.
