Authorities had been pursuing a strong lead throughout the day, which eventually led them to the arrest. Reul expressed a sense of relief after the intense search came to an end, although the grief over the tragic events remains heavy.<br /><br />Islamic State Claims Responsibility<br /><br />Shortly after the attack, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility, identifying the assailant as a "soldier of the Islamic State." According to their statement on Telegram, the attack was carried out in revenge for the suffering of Muslims in Palestine and other regions. The claim has added a layer of terror to the already grim situation, as investigators work to piece together the full scope of the attacker's motives.<br /><br />A Tragic Night at a Community Festival<br /><br />The attack occurred during a festival celebrating Solingen’s 650th anniversary. The victims—two men aged 67 and 56, and a 56-year-old woman—were enjoying a live music performance when the assailant struck.
