German leader Scholz vows tougher asylum rules after suspected Islamist attack

During a visit to Solingen, where three people were killed in a mass stabbing over the weekend, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz vowed to step up deportations and reduce irregular migration.<br /><br />"This was terrorism—terrorism against all of us, threatening our lives and our way of living," Scholz said after laying a flower at the site of the attack to honor the victims.<br /><br />"We must do everything possible to ensure that those who cannot stay in Germany are repatriated and deported."<br /><br />The attack, believed to have been carried out by a suspected Islamic State member from Syria, has heightened political tensions over asylum and deportation policies, as well as violent crime, ahead of three state elections next month.<br /><br />#Solingen #Germany #migrants <br />
