German economy minister offers help to Volkswagen to avoid site closures<br /><br />German Economy Minister Robert Habeck says on Sept. 20, 2024 that he wants to help Volkswagen get through a period of cost-cutting without site closures. During a visit to the carmaker's factory in Emden, the minister said he also wanted to ensure that personnel policy measures remained within the normal collective bargaining framework. A VW union representative said workers were feeling resigned and angry at the situation because of the looming closures and the lack of job security.
