‘Julian’ intensifies into super typhoon as it slowly moves away from the Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Julian” (international name “Krathon”) became a super typhoon while moving slowly away from the country on Tuesday, Oct. 1.<br /><br />In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the super typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 230 kph.<br /><br />Based on the latest update, the center of Julian was located 205 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes.<br /><br />The highest tropical cyclone wind warning currently in effect due to Julian is Signal No. 2.
