A posh town will cut back on its award-winning hanging baskets by more than two thirds - to save energy.<br /><br />Councillors in Cheltenham have voted to drop the number of hanging baskets in the town from more than 300 to 100.<br /><br />The number of window boxes at the Town Hall and Municipal Offices will also be cut by 96. <br /><br />A decision was then made to change the annual bedding-based plants in Long Gardens to perennial plants.<br /><br />This switch was made as they "require less water and energy in their production and maintenance"- according to the meeting report.
