So I ask, did [the Jews] stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather, through their trespass salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous. Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion mean! <br />Romans 11:11-12 ESV<br /><br />How did the failure of the Jews to accept their Messiah mean riches for the Gentiles? In the same way that the failure of Israel to repent in Jonah's day meant riches for at least one generation of the people of Ninevah. The ministries of Paul and Jonah are parallel in many ways.
