The Australian parliament passed on Friday, Nov. 29, a law banning children under 16 years old from having social media accounts. <br /><br />The law will make platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X and Instagram liable for fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars (P1.9 billion) for systemic failures to prevent children younger than 16 years old from holding accounts.
