THE Texas Longhorns' beloved mascot Bevo has been banned from the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.<br /><br />The much-loved bull is a constant on the sidelines for the college football team.<br /><br />It is a tradition to have the male steer cheer on the team before and during their games.<br /><br />However, the Longhorns have been told he will not be able to appear at the CFP Quarterfinal.<br /><br />They are taking on the Arizona State Sun Devils on 1 January, New Year's Day, at 1 pm.<br /><br />The showdown will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of NFL side the Atlanta Falcons.<br /><br />But the organizers of the fixture have cited safety reasons for banning him from the key game.<br /><br />And they have been forced to release a statement on X revealing the reasons why.<br /><br />"We love all the great traditions of college football and no doubt, Bevo is one of the best," it read.<br /><br />"But the unfortunate reality is there is simply not enough room on the sidelines of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.<br /><br />"With the constraints of the stadium and prioritizing the safety of Bevo.<br /><br />It went on: "The players, all the network cameras, support staff, cheerleaders, and photographers, we will not be able to have Bevo on the field."<br /><br />Longhorns fans reacted with anger at the decision, demanding to know "why they have done this?".<br /><br />One fan added: "Texas should opt-out and force their hand."<br /><br />Another said: "Can we stop having games at a stadium that isn’t big enough to hold… a cow?<br /><br />"It’s not fair to UT to consistently have to play in a stadium that continuously disallows their mascot."<br /><br />A third added: "Arizona st can't bring their mascot either then.<br /><br />"Billion dollar franchise and didn't think of adding more room on sidelines."<br /><br />A supporter commented: "One of the newest stadiums on the planet built to host more college football games<br />.<br />" Didn't take into consideration one of those most traditional aspects of college sports, live mascots."<br /><br />Bevo was also barred from the SEC Championship game against Georgia earlier this month.<br /><br />The same safety reasons were cited for him not being allowed on the sidelines.<br /><br />The Longhorns clash with Arizona State is sold out, with fans traveling from across the country to watch.
