Mine-clearing operation in Crozon

2009-05-17 1 Dailymotion

“Plage de l’Abers” in Crozon is deserted today; its access has been prohibited since last week. Bomb disposal experts are at work clearing the beach off diabolical devices.

The mayor of Crozon asked the local maritime authorities to clean the beach before summertime. No less than seventy German mines have been discovered on this popular spot during the past two years, some only buried inches in the sand.

During the last war, the Germans had mined the beaches to prevent an Allied landing. The bomb disposal team is using an excavator to investigate each suspect signal sent by metal detectors. The team already uncovered thirty-five mines and destroyed all ordnance on the spot using explosive.
