Meteorologist warns of more extreme fire events in California<br /><br />As aircraft dropped water and fire retardant on steep hills to stem the eastward spread of the Palisades wildfire in Los Angeles on Saturday (January 11), experts cautioned that weather conditions, including wind gusts, could make matters worse.<br /><br />"This isn't over yet," said Daniel Swain, a UCLA climate scientist, who also warned that the death toll from the various fires in California is likely to rise and to anticipate "multiple additional extreme fire weather events coming up in the next seven to ten days".<br /><br />Over the past 24 hours, the Palisades Fire spread over an additional 1,000 acres, officials reported, and consumed more homes.<br /><br />WEATHERWEST / DR.
