A CRICKET match was halted as a fire broke out at the iconic The Gabba stadium.<br /><br />The fire occurred during the Big Bash League clash between the Brisbane Heat and the Hobart Hurricanes.<br /><br />The Hurricanes were batting away at 47/0 four overs into their 20-over innings when the game was halted.<br /><br />The fire appeared to break out from the DJ booth near the scoreboard.<br /><br />Play was stopped for several minutes as staff tried to put the blaze out.<br /><br />Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident<br /><br />Former Australia star Brad Haddin was left in shock at the incident as he spoke on commentary.<br /><br />He said: "Oh no this could get serious.<br /><br />"It is just halting proceedings.<br /><br />"I think the umpires have been made aware of what is happening out there, so they just want to make sure nothing gets out of control.<br /><br />“Play delayed due to fire, I never thought I would see that."<br /><br />Fox cricket reporter Eloise Sohier revealed that people had been evacuated from near the fire.<br /><br />She added: "I think I would be standing on the boundary reporting an electrical fire,” Eloise Sohier said.<br /><br />“There still is a bit of smoke around the scoreboard. They have evacuated the chairs around it perhaps trying to move them to somewhere else in the Stadium.<br /><br />“But it is a sellout here at The Gabba this evening, so where they are going to get placed, who knows.<br /><br />“The safety of everyone is of most importance.<br /><br />“It looks like it has been put out. Several fire extinguishers are working on the fire, and at this stage, the smoke is dissipating.<br /><br />“I think fans are keen to get on with the game, but safety first here at The Gabba."<br /><br />Play was able to resume, and the Hurricanes continued with their innings as they chased the Heat's 201 for 6.<br /><br />They reached the total with the last ball of their 20 overs to win the match.<br /><br />Caleb Jewell was the pick of the batters with an impressive 76 runs off just 49 balls.
