West Brom defender Kyle Bartley was shown a straight red card after tempers flared following his side's dramatic 2-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday.

Jayson Molumby scored a last-gasp winner in the 97th minute to boost the Baggies' Championship play-off bid at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

But ugly scenes broke out after the final whistle and Bartley, the hosts' captain, was dismissed for his part in a brawl that broke out in the center circle.

Players from both teams began pushing and shoveling each other, and Bartley was caught planting an elbow into the face of Wednesday midfielder Svante Ingelsson.

Goal hero Molumby was perceived by some Wednesday players to have goaded the away supporters by celebrating in their direction at full-time.

Ingelsson then raced over to confront him, leading Bartley to step in.

The towering defender pushed his arm out and caught Ingelsson in direct view of referee Tom Nield, who quickly brandished his red card.

Bartley had only just returned to action after a calf injury but will now miss West Brom's next three matches after his dismissal for violent conduct.

'I went down the tunnel after shaking a few hands, I'm sure it (the red card) is correct because Kyle just came in and said he had a red card,' said Mowbray. 'My mind as soon as one game finishes moves to the next one, so there's a real frustration.

'If there are any positives about it I suppose it's that if he gets three games then two of them are done in the next five days.

'It's not like three weeks where we have to do preparation and he's not involved.'

Wednesday boss Danny Rohl refused to point fingers over the incident, saying: 'I think it's emotional when there are two late goals on the pitch.

'You saw today it was a game where both teams fight for something, there will be a lot of games in the next weeks and months like this now. Everybody knows what it means to take a draw or a win. There are other points today to discuss.'

Callum Paterson looked to have secured a late point for Rohl's side after scoring in the 93rd minute, only for Molumby to pounce just moments later.
