Athena lander reaches moon's surface but status unclear

Intuitive Machines (LUNR.O) announces on March 6, 2025 that its robotic Athena lander reached the moon’s surface, but its status and condition remain unclear in a tense moment for the company’s second attempt. Uncertainty over the lander’s health sent Intuitive Machines' stock down 15.6 percent after the live stream of the landing ended. The six-legged Athena lander, carrying 11 payloads and scientific instruments, descended over a flat-topped mountain named Mons Mouton, about 100 miles (160 km) from the lunar south pole, and had aimed to have made a landing at around 12:32 p.m. ET. But by that time, the lander's engine was still running, telemetry showed, as it appeared to hover over the moon. Company mission control staff commanded the lander's engine and systems to shut down amid its uncertain status.

NASA/REUTERS

Subscribe to The Manila Times Channel - https://tmt.ph/YTSubscribe

Visit our website at https://www.manilatimes.net

Follow us:
Facebook - https://tmt.ph/facebook
Instagram - https://tmt.ph/instagram
Twitter - https://tmt.ph/twitter
DailyMotion - https://tmt.ph/dailymotion

Subscribe to our Digital Edition - https://tmt.ph/digital

Check out our Podcasts:
Spotify - https://tmt.ph/spotify
Apple Podcasts - https://tmt.ph/applepodcasts
Amazon Music - https://tmt.ph/amazonmusic
Deezer: https://tmt.ph/deezer
Tune In: https://tmt.ph/tunein

#TheManilaTimes
#tmtnews
#athenalander
#inuitivemachines
