A team of researchers is embarking on a challenging expedition to Mount Everest’s Western Cwm to study why the ice on Khumbu Glacier is nearing melting point.<br /><br />The team, led by Professor Duncan Quincey of the University of Leeds, aims to measure ice temperatures and investigate how solar radiation affects snowmelt despite freezing air temperatures.<br /><br />Their findings could have global implications for glacial melt and water supplies across the Himalayas.<br /><br />The project, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council, involves experts from multiple universities and will use advanced borehole drilling technology to gather data.
