Rousing the masses to defy the perceived all-powerful Han dynasty, these inspirational women started a movement of Vietnamese autonomy that would be the precursor and in many ways a blueprint to their peoples eventual independence. The famously courageous Trung sisters are, to this day, a bedrock and wellspring of national pride and dignity for the Vietnamese people, who have a long and proud history of fighting against foreign oppression.
