MILTON, VT – First responders in Milton were ambushed Wednesday evening while responding to a reported structure fire at 78 Main Street, resulting in an officer being shot and the suspect barricading inside the property.<br /><br />According to initial reports, members of the Milton Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS were on scene addressing the structure fire when an unidentified individual opened fire. <br /><br />One law enforcement officer was struck by gunfire during the ambush. <br /><br />The current condition of the injured officer has not been publicly released.<br /><br />Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly barricaded themselves inside the building, prompting a large-scale emergency response and the establishment of a secure perimeter.<br /><br />Please avoid Mian St, RT 7 area in Milton due to a police scene. <br /><br />Active shooter in Milton.
