Dramatic footage shows a former builder's yard in Greenhithe, Kent, engulfed in flames on April 23, 2025, just metres from neighbouring homes.<br /><br />Eight fire engines responded to the blaze, which was contained by 1:17 a.m. on April 24.<br /><br />Firefighters used main jets to extinguish the fire, which consumed a derelict building surrounded by scrubland.<br /><br />Neighbours reported thick black smoke visible as far as Bluewater Shopping Centre.<br /><br />The cause of the fire is unknown, but local residents had previously seen teenagers on-site.<br /><br />The land was once slated for redevelopment into 32 homes, but the application was abandoned in 2023. No injuries were reported.
